I’d lost touch during the Transformers era, since that will forever be known as my “busy era” (starting a business is intense), but I’ve since retroactively picked it up and incorporated into my listening habits. I also regret not being able to attend the New Zealand leg of the tours then, since money was tight.
But now, any music ever is just a few clicks away – it’s rare for me to get super excited about any new releases. This has the feeling of something bigger, the hallmarks of history defining – so as you might be able to tell, I am onboard with the hype machine for this one. So much so that I recently signed up for Linkin Park Underground.
Uber Fandom has never really been my thing and while I’ll occasionally collect physical copies of things I like, I’d never really join any club or whatever – especially if it cost money. I was a poor student when I first heard about LPU and then since then a few extra behind the scenes that I’d never have time to sit down and watch never really swayed me. Now however, I want to breathe in as much as I can get a hold of for the next wave of Linkin Park.
So finally, when my wife listened to ‘The Emptiness Machine’ for the first time and said to me “I can’t believe we’re getting a new Linkin Park album” and then later asked if we were going to go see them live, I only had one answer:
Of course we fucking are.
